Introduction #
SU Carburetors – Matching the Air Pistons is a must for a tune up. This is something you’ll can to check, and once complete, only needs to be done once.
The carbs came from the factory with the parts all matched. Over time, very possible that you or someone could have had things apart and mismatched the piston and the chambers. This simple check can make a very big difference to performance an operation. This will also help with making sure the fuel/air mixture can be properly adjusted.
The Process & A Caution #
This video shows the process of verifying or getting the best match between the pistons and the suction chambers. If you undertake this be VERY CAREFUL not to drop either part. In the part where the fall is being counted off pay particular attention to John’s thumbs. He has them positioned to make sure the piston cannot fall out completely and hit the floor. Critical, because a drop from this hit will ding and damage them carburetor parts. This would make things even worse than they may have been before.
Hopefully this will enable you to do your own SU Carburetors – Matching the Air Pistons process.
