The MGB rear brakes are a common question. Because the workshop manuals are not great as far as pictures go. There are often issues when brakes have been done by those not fully experienced with the correct way to do them.
Correct Installation Information #
This video shows the correct way. Note that as the video starts the right hand side would be towards the back of the car. Also, note that the backing plates are different. The parts are specific between the left and right side of the car. So, it is important to check these are the on the correct sides. I have seen an example of them being put on incorrectly. They were rotated 180 degrees to compensate resulting in the brake cylinder being at the top! Also pay particular attention to the orientation of the brake shoes. Note the positioning of where they sit. Specifically where the bare/no braking material edges are located. You can see at approximately 11 O’clock and 5 O’clock at the start of the video.
