Emissions Control Systems may not be the most exiting thing but they are good for the environment. It is common for owners to remove air pumps and anti-pollution equipment. Usually this is in the name of getting more power. My personal view is this makes little difference to the performance. Maybe the “butt dino” measurement feels faster, in reality very little if any improvement. The focus of this article is the late model 1977-1980 cars.
Owners Manual Overview #
There is actually a pretty good overview diagram available in the original owners manual if you have one available. These pages are extracted from a 1977 owners manual. They cover the 3 areas of the system and there is 3 pages total from the owners manual:
- Crankcase emission control
- Exhaust emission control
- Evaporative loss control
For an overview of the Evaporative Loss Control system, as part of the overall Emissions Control Systems John Twist did a video walk through for the late model cars.
