The B061 Recall Campaign Bulletin relates to the 1975 to 1978 MGB. In addition to the B061 reference this is also documented as 78/Z/4 and this version includes updates to the original publication of B061 or 78/Z/4. The recall covers 3 main errors or problems. These relate to the catalyst, carburetor and overdrive gearbox.
Emission Related #
This describes how, due to a resonant vibration in the exhaust system occurring during normal engine operation may cause:
- A loosening of the exhaust manifold causing exhaust leaks
- A cracked exhaust manifold
- A cracked catalyst case
- Destruction of the interior matrix of the catalyst causing it to become ineffective in controlling exhaust emissions
- A deterioration of drivability due to power loss
Safety Related #
As a result of the vibration safety concern it is possible that the main fuel metering needle may break allowing it to shift and create an over-rich condition in the engine. The vibration may also cause the screws securing the carburetor float bowl to loosen and allow a seepage of gasoline and a potential risk of fire.
Overdrive Gearbox #
For overdrive gearboxes there is a possibility the of overdrive wiring harness coming into contact with the body, causing an electrical short and creating a potential risk of fire.

I’ve built this website and spent time on the knowledge base to bring together a lot of information I have collected from around the internet. The intent is making it easy to find rather than having to know about and have skills with search engine query terms to get what you were looking for. Please make use of the knowledge base.
