The B004 Recall Campaign Bulletin Fan Clearance Check related to early 1973 MGB and MGB/GT cars. The bulletin defines the need to check whether there is sufficient space between the fan and the radiator. Specifically listed are VINs: MGB GHN5UD 295512 to GHN5UD 306166 and MGB-GT GHD5UD 297316 to GHD5UD 308521. An alternative reference number is 74/Z/1.
The problems were related to cars with metal fans. So, if a car in the VIN range is already fitted with a plastic fan there was no need for any further checks.
If a metal fan is present then the bulletin defines the procedure to check the clearance. A checking gauge was available for use by service technicians. A simple 2 piece device that was assembled and used to check the clearance gap. A simple and effective solution. The required gap is 0.92 inches. Using the tool it is possible to quickly check the clearance between the radiator and the straight edge of the fan closest to the radiator.
If the clearance was not sufficient, the solution is to replace the metal fan with a plastic fan.

I’ve built this website and spent time on the knowledge base to bring together a lot of information I have collected from around the internet. The intent is making it easy to find rather than having to know about and have skills with search engine query terms to get what you were looking for. Please make use of the knowledge base.
